What is a SIPP?

What is a Self-Invested Personal Pension (SIPP)?

A SIPP (Self-Invested Personal Pension) is a type of UK-registered personal pension designed for people who want to make their own investment decisions. How much to put in, where to invest it and how much to take out when you come to retire – is up to you. It puts you in control of your pension.

Compared with standard UK pension schemes, a SIPP offers greater choice of investments and additional flexibility at retirement. Pensions are a tax-efficient form of saving.

Your SIPP can be funded by new contributions or through the transfer of one of multiple existing pension plans. Employers may also contribute to the SIPP.

Most UK pension scheme funds (excluding the State pension) can be transferred into a SIPP. A SIPP can also accept transfers from overseas pensions, including QROPS. Consolidating your different pension plans into a SIPP may reduce fees.

You can access all, or part, of your SIPP any time after the Normal Minimum Access Age (currently 55). Investments in SIPPs are tax-free and can be passed onto your nominated beneficiaries upon your death. If a member dies before the age of 75, the funds can be passed on free of tax. If a member dies after the age of 75, funds will be taxed at the recipient’s marginal rate of tax.

Our SIPP Product Range

We offer 2 different SIPP products

Both of our SIPP products are registered pension schemes available to retail (i.e. non-professional) clients who are advised by a financial adviser. When compared to something like a workplace pension, they generally provide members with more choice, flexibility and control over where the money inside the SIPP is invested. It is important to note that pension legislation and tax rules can change, and the value of investments can fall as well as rise, meaning individuals may draw out less than they have paid in.
